The Distillery Christmas Market began with a few miniature ski chalet-style huts in the bitter winter cold. An old-fashioned European market with chocolates and candles and gifty wares. It was open about a week or so, and rarely crowded during the day.
The market expanded into every narrow walk in the Distillery; now it's open for weeks.
We arrived early to snag a parking spot. The tree was up; its lights lit. The old bricks underfoot dry and cold, spared for a moment the trudge of many feet. We lingered over coffee and kind of noticed that couples and families and groups were traipsing in. Noon struck. Opening time for the annual market. We bundled up, pushed open the outer doors, and ran into a wall of people. Kids, school groups, tourists, families, and a few adults like us.
