Robert Service and His Cabin circa May 1996

Robert Service lived and wrote his poetry in Dawson City, Yukon. Even years after he left physically, his soul rested here. The feeling was mutual.

Parks Canada had just opened up the city for business, tourism that is, and we caught one of the first poetry readings of the season by Robert Service aka an actor. We few sat on plain wooden bleachers that faced Service and his cabin. We tourists sat on one side, dressed in our tourist wear of shorts, souvenir t-shirts, and cameras. The miners sat on the other, they in their scuffed jeans and worn flannel shirts. We all listened enthralled.
